COP26 left us wondering how the zero-carbon targets will be met. Most of the political answers were relying very heavily on technology that has not been invented yet, especially from 2030 to 2050. Again, we see politicians kicking the can down the road and playing for time. No government opted to make hard "vote-loosing" decisions, instead they relied on unknown tech to “suck out the carbon from the atmosphere” at some point in the future. We believe this technology is already with us though. It has been for centuries. Forests, both on land and under the sea, are certainly one of the most important solutions to climate change.
It varies, but the best estimate for how much carbon a tree absorbs (sequestration) is about 10kg per year for the first 20 years, or 10 tons per hectare. For a kelp forest it is about 20-30 times that, much depending on climate. As we are just starting out on this road, we are putting more emphasis on kelp forests.
Current forests need to be left intact, and new ones created. Our mission is to provide financial aid to the charities that are doing this valuable work. We can’t wait for politicians and industry to take the lead; it will be too late.
The planet's climate is broken. It is a longterm project to fix it. We feel that much more is needed to help solve this problem, and it is needed now.
We want to become a recognised and respected foundation, that is a leader in the support of forestation around the globe.
We aim to consistently provide donations to enable reforestation of the planet. This is made possible mainly through the investment of permanent capital, that is itself invested in sustainable and green investments, to provide a high, regular, and growing income. Smaller donations will be added to this regular income to provide grants to front-line charities.
These forestry projects are achieved over a number of years. Therefore, we believe, it is very important that a donation can be committed for the full length of the project. With permanent capital it is more likely that this will be achieved.
Size matters! We also have a very low cost base and all trustees/directors receive no payments for all their hard work. About 99% of what you donate will end up being used for forestry projects.
Permanent capital is a donation, normally large (£1,000 and above), that is invested to provide income. It is the income that is donated by this charity to projects. The idea is that the donations can be made every year, forever.
It is possible to set up a regular or single donation on our Donation Page. Equally, if you want to make sure that something is donated every year, please select to donate as Permanent Capital. Finally, you could leave us something in your Will, and this would be treated as Permanent Capital.
